Queer/ing Media Art.
Queer/ing Media Art. Digital Mobile Infrastructures in Queer and Feminist Art
The PhD project investigates the affective, queer and infrastructural configurations and intervention strategies of queer and feminist artistic media practices and their interactions with mobile digital media, technologies and infrastructures. The project focuses on the intersection of queer and feminist art, digital infrastructures and affects. It analyzes the use of smartphones as an artistic medium, asks about the situatedness of art discourses and practices in affective infrastructures, and examines their critical media practices, such as strategies of queering.
The main objective of the study is to investigate the interaction between digital mobile media and affective configurations of queer and feminist artistic practices. It aims at shedding light on and discuss the affective dimensions and the critical potential of digital artistic media practices. Thereby, the project contributes to the theorizing of practices and cultures of affective infrastructuring in queer and feminist art.
The spatially and temporally distributed practices of queer and feminist art require the study to situate them and their mutual production in digital and affective contexts, technologies and infrastructures. In doing so, the project refers to discourses of gender and queer theories as well as queer and affective methodologies, interweaves praxeological and discourse-analytical approaches and enhances them with mediaethnographic methods.
